Die Handlung spielt im Theater St. Gallen in der Schweiz statt.
The action takes place in St. Gallen Theater in Switzerland.
1. Es war einmal eine Probe Shakespeares Hamlet. Da pocht Laertes auf eine einzige Zeile, “I bought an unction of a mountebank so mortal that but dip a knife in it…”, die er wiederholt bis zum Wahnsinnigwerden.
Once upon a time there was a rehearsal of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” where Laertes is obsessed with one line, “I bought an unction of a mountebank so mortal that but dip a knife in it…”, which he repeats enough to drive everyone crazy.
2. Frau Doktor Faust und ihr treuer Hund gehen im St. Gallen Klosterhof spazieren. Da singen zwei volkstümlich gekleidete Musikanten von einem armen Schlucker, dessen Frau eine Salbe kocht, die Lust auf Geschlechtsverkehr verlöscht.
Frau Doktor Faust and her loyal dog stroll in the courtyard of the St. Gallen Monastery. Two musicians dressed in folkloric costumes sing there about a poor sucker whose wife cooks an unction that extinguishes sexual desire.
3. “Amerika, das Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten!” sagt Frau Doktor zum Vierbeiner, der denkt, “Und sollen sein ein Fleisch.”
“America, the land of unlimited possibilities!” Frau Doktor says to her four-legged friend, who thinks, “And made one in the flesh.”
4. Gertrude Regula (Regula: “kleine Königin” von lateinisch ‘regulus’ = kleiner König) und Hund fahren mit der Bahn zum Flugplatz in Zuri. Nach vier Jahren kehren sie im Flugger mit einem Bräutigam wieder zurück. Sie sind sozusagen eine Familie.
Gertrude Regula (Regula: “little queen” from Latin ‘regulus’ = little king) and dog take the train to Zurich airport. After four years they return in a plane with a bridegroom. They are, so to speak, a family.
5. Die Familie reist um die schöne Schweiz herum—nach Basel, Aargau, Bern, Fribourg, Lausanne, Interlaken, Ascona, usw. Bevor das Märchen vorbei ist, ist der Bräutigam mit Scheidungspapieren serviert und stirbt.
The family travels around lovely Switzerland—to Basel, Aargau, Bern, Fribourg, Lausanne, Interlaken, Ascona, etc. Before the fairy tale is over, the bridegroom is served with divorce papers and dies.
6. Hamlet wird immer weiter geprobt. Laertes kommt über die selbe Zeile nicht hinaus: “I bought an unction of a mountebank so mortal that but dip a knife in it…”
Hamlet is still being rehearsed. Laertes doesn’t get beyond “I bought an unction of a mountebank so mortal that but dip a knife in it…”
7. Am Kamin der Beiz “Zur Ganz Kleinen Königin” stoβen Frau Doktor and des Menschen bester Freund an.
Bis, daβ der Tod uns scheidet!
