The Old Man visited the famous California course designed by George C. Thomas, Jr., in 1923, where he noted that shoe cleaning/polishing is no charge but the golf rate is a stern $180.

The Nittany Lion (the Founder’s 3-wood has a Penn State Nittany Lion headcover) did not follow the game plan at MCAS Miramar Memorial yesterday. Instead of nailing Top-Flites down the fairway, the club muffed shots three yards and a cloud of dust. In the photo, the Nittany Lion's teammates Mike and Neil block downfield. Full disclosure: The Founder was not a member of the university golf team while in the German Department’s Master’s degree program (for one semester in 1988); the headcover was found this summer in the used bin of a Golf Mart in San Diego.

In a resounding 2-1 show of hands, the Board rejected the Founder’s proposal to golf ‎only with NMGC members.
